How it works
Product Overview & How It Works
The most common application for these photocells in gate or door automation is as a safety system to prevent contact with obstacles while closing. If supported by the automation's electronic control board, they can also be used as an active safety system during the opening maneuver.
The most common application for these photocells in gate or door automation is as a safety system to prevent contact with obstacles while closing. If supported by the automation's electronic control board, they can also be used as an active safety system during the opening maneuver.
The system consists of a transmitting photocell and a receiving photocell, with the former sending an infrared signal to the latter.
If an obstacle breaks this IR beam while the gate or door is closing, the system will automatically stop and reverse its movement to reopen fully.
Furthermore, if the beam is interrupted while the gate is already open, the system prevents it from closing for as long as the obstacle remains in its path.
These units transmit a continuous safety beam that, when broken, serves as a highly effective protection device. As long as the path remains clear, the system allows the gate or door to proceed normally. However, should a person, pet, or vehicle interrupt the signal, the door will immediately respond according to its current cycle to ensure maximum safety.
Why add a Photoelectric Safety Beam if DUCATI’s openers already feature an integrated safety obstacle detection system in compliance with EU standards EN 12453 and EN 12445?
While DUCATI's built-in system ensures full compliance with European safety standards, photocells provide a vital additional layer of protection.
The integrated system stops the gate upon contact with an object, whereas the safety beams prevent contact entirely.
If an obstacle intercepts the infrared ray during the closing phase, the gate immediately reopens. This prevents any physical impact, ensuring your vehicle never gets scratched by the moving gate leaf.
Adding photoelectric safety beams helps protect you, your family, your friends, and your vehicles from accidental damage.
Alternative Operation: Start Command Function
Additionally, by using the Normally Open (NO) output contact connected to the automation board's start input, these photocells can also function as a command device to trigger a maneuver. When any obstacle interrupts the beam transmitted from the transmitter to the receiver, the interruption sends a trigger signal to open the gate automatically.
